Specialized Care for Individual Horses

Horse Boarding

We believe that there are no cookie-cutter horses, therefore their care should be individualized as well.

Full board is $400 per month.

Feeding and Turnout

Proper feeding is critical to the health of your horse.

We feed a high-quality hay four times a day. No other boarding facility in the area feeds that often.

We hay-feed year-round to ensure optimum health.

Horses are turned out as much as possible, given weather conditions, grass conditions and horse health. We have four pastures for horses who are "easy keepers", and two pastures for horses who need more calories in their forage. We do not turn out into mud lots.

We grain as each horse needs, anywhere from once a day to four times a day. We feed a high-quality, 12% grain from Tiz-Whiz, but if you prefer us to feed a different grain that you provide, that is also fine.

We fill up water buckets at least twice daily, sometimes more when necessary.

We administer supplements – as many as you want. We give oral medication as ordered by the vet, and we can do injections too, which saves you money.

On-site Management by Educated and Caring Staff

Your horse is treated like he is one of our own. No exceptions.

The owner, Karen Greene, lives on-property and has been caring for horses for over 40 years. Horses that live at Hillcroft age gracefully into their 30's. We even have horses that are over 40 years old!

Assisting staff and stall cleaners are highly trained and carefully screened to ensure your horse is always handled properly and well-cared for.

We have top practitioners for your horse. We use Walnut Grove veterinary clinic. Dave Jones and Kenny Hoyle are our farriers, and Greg Neuman is our chiropractor. However we are an open facility. Your practitioner is welcome.

Blanketing, putting on fly sheets, fly masks and other specialized horse care is all provided at no charge.

We have several 12x12 stalls for larger horses. Two are matted and have windows.

Stalls cleaned 6 days a week.

Matted barn aisles and grooming stall.

Outdoor wash rack.

Free trailer parking.

Friendly deer on a trail ride

Arenas and 100 acres of trails...you will always have somewhere to ride!

When it comes right down to it, riding is why you have a horse, and we have lots of places to do it!

A large outdoor arena with dressage footing and room for both jumps and dressage patterns.

A full-size indoor arena in a separate building, with a high enough roof so you can even jump indoors when the weather is poor.

Entry level cross-country course with fun inviting jumps.

126 acres of meadows, woods and 7 miles of groomed riding trails, available to boarders only.

Open, rolling terrain for galloping.

Training for You and Your Horse

When a horse is not performing as expected, look to the rider for what's wrong.

Karen Greene is a Grand Prix dressage rider with incredible talent for training horses of all breeds and purposes. Karen started riding as a child and has spent most of her life working with horses. She has backed and trained Thoroughbreds for the track, bred and trained warmbloods through Grand Prix dressage, trained gaited horses, and taught hundreds of students how to ride in various disciplines, primarily dressage and eventing. She employs the French Versailles School of classical dressage to take the best of French and German schools to improve riders of all disciplines – dressage, eventer, jumper, western and recreational. She has also had extensive warmblood breeding experience, working with Scott Hassler and Parabol at Hilltop Farm, one of the nation’s celebrated champion Westphalian stallions.

While Karen is very familiar with high performance and sport horses, she has a soft spot in her heart for everyday horses. She uses dressage to bring out the best they have while improving their fitness for a long, happy life. Karen’s relaxed, integrative style helps students progress as quickly as they are able. Her coaching results in her students usually taking honors at the local show circuit and beyond.

You may bring your horse in for lessons in Dressage, eventing, combined training and beginner, provided you have a current coggins and vaccinations. Currently, no on-site lesson horses are available.

Kids can start lesson at eight years old.

About Hillcroft Crescent

Happy Horses, Happy People

No Drama Zone!As one of Dayton’s premiere hidden equestrian facilities, we pride ourselves on professional individual care for your horse, whether he is a competitive athlete or a Sunday pleasure horse. We have horses ranging from warmblood Westphalians to Clydesdales, Arabs, Quarterhorses and everything in between. We even have a little Shetland pony! Every horse and every level rider is made welcome and respected. Special needs horses are welcome too, and usually thrive at Hillcroft.

While we specialize in classical dressage, eventing and combined training, we are not a "show" barn. With that said, we do have several riders who are competing at second-level dressage, and others competing in lower levels of both dressage and jumping disciplines. We are affiliated with the Dayton Local Show Circuit, USEA and USDF.

Here is what some of our boarders past and present have to say about our barn:

  • Candi, Owner of Zorr, Sami, Sly and Moses

I first came to Hillcroft Crescent in 2004. Quality care with peace of mind you can depend on. Good friends made and a treasure of memories. My four horses have always been very, very happy calling it "Home".

  • Donna, owner of Ramoth and Scotch

Have been at HCF since Nov. 1999. Need I say more! Superior care, healthy horses and miles of groomed trails. Boarders who are friendly and will ride the trails with you at a moment's notice. I can leave for vacation and never worry about my mares' care. Ramoth, Scotch and I have found a wonderful home to enjoy our "horsey" days together. Come Join Us! See ya!

  • Margaret, owner of Trudy

Karen and Hillcroft Crescent have been a Godsend for me and my beloved Trudy. She is a rescue horse with much fear and many health issues. Here at Hillcroft she has become relaxed and confident. I never have to worry that she's not being cared for properly, and that is literally priceless!
